Western Wall / Holy Sepulchre / El Aksa Mosque
holy sites in Jerusalem according to the three major religions
that consider Jerusalem to be a Holy City
- The Western Wall is the last remaining wall of the Jewish Temple
(Herod's Temple, not the original Temple of Solomon or the one
rebuilt by Ezra and Nehemiah after the Babylonian captivity).
- The Holy Sepulchre is assumed by many to be Jesus' burial place
(but of course he didn't stay there very long).
- The El Aksa (or Al-Aksa) Mosque was built on the location from
which Mohammed made his ascent to heaven after he was miraculously
transported from Mecca to Jerusalem.
