This puzzle is for the birds.
The grid below contains the names of twenty ornithological pop artists, which are listed at the bottom of this page. Any birdbrain could solve it, except that the names are written as the crow flies, which contrary to popular belief is not in a straight line. Progression from one letter to the next is always up, down, left, or right, but never diagonal.
When you are finished, the seventeen unused letters, read left to right, top to bottom, will spell the name of a group who recorded a vocalese version of Weather Report's "Birdland."
EXAMPLE:
"The Flamingos" might appear as follows:
T A M I N G
H E F L S O
M S E L A A Y S G N E P N H E A G A J E U U I N S R A E N U O C A L B S A T E R H T T A K B Y R D N D P A G I N G C R O W E S P I M I M Y A L N T S C H A B A N A N L Y R E H R T R I N E X A E L A S L L R L L C N I H B I R D N U I I S M Y A R D M A F E G D E F N I B O O C O L K A R S H E I N N S K O F S E A W A D O V E T E R S E R N K S
