The assignment is to pair up people, living, dead, and/or fictional, to be running mates in a presidential campaign. The pairings are based on the two last names fitting together to make a familiar-sounding term, such as drummer Ringo Starr teaming up with detective Phil Fish to create the Starr / Fish ticket. For each imaginary team, there is a campaign slogan. See if you can figure out my teams and their slogans.
The gender of first name in the "If...chose" statements might help a bit. Another clue is that while most name pairs are separated with a slash (e.g. the aforementioned "Starr/Fish"), a few are connected with an ampersand (e.g. if I had a team named "Thayer & Bach").
Start with the most obvious names first (e.g. think what goes well with "Trump"), then get to the harder ones through elimination. Ironically, this puzzle was created long before I had any idea that Trump would actually run for president, much less win!
Note that there are two men named Black, and they are interchangeable as far as this puzzle goes.
