Chapter Summary:

[1] Xerxes deposes his queen, Vashti, for disrespect and disobedience.
[2] Esther, a Jewish woman, is made queen and saves the king's life.
[3] Haman the nobleman hatches a plot to destroy the Jews.
[4] Mordecai convinces Esther to speak to the king to save the Jews.
[5] Esther hosts a feast for Xerxes and for Haman.
[6] Mordecai is honored for exposing the plot to kill Xerxes.
[7] Esther reveals that she is Jewish, so Xerxes spares the Jews and hangs Haman.
[8] Xerxes gives the estate of Haman to Esther, and the Jews gain resposect.
[9] Mordecai and the Jews defeat their enemies and institute a new holiday.
